Another year, another trailer (or two)

Like many folks, we started off  2011 thinking about what we want to accomplish this year.
Last year was busier than expected for both of us, and as a result we weren't able to devote as much time as we would've liked to working on the trailers. This year, we decided, they would become a priority. So we quickly got into trailer mode, thinking about everything we need to do. This led to Craigslist, because after all, why shouldn't we be looking there? We need parts don't we?

Well, we did manage to find some parts, but we also found two more trailers.

The first one we found was a 1969 Serro Scotty HiLander. We liked the Scotties, and hey, this trailer has a bathroom! So why not go take a look, it was only an hour away...

We got there and saw that it was smaller than our AirFlyte, but it sure was cute. It clearly needed a lot of work, and while everything we did see was original, several things seemed to be missing. I remember thinking maybe it wasn't for us after all. But when we started asking questions, we found that everything that had been taken out of the trailer was being stored in a garage. Not only that, there were extra parts in that garage, ours for the taking.  Jackpot!

It's worth mentioning that it had rained a lot during that time, and as a result we encountered another 'stuck in the mud' situation with the Scotty. Fortunately, the seller had his 1948 Farmall Tractor at the ready to give us an assist. What a great guy!
We wound up coming home with a Scotty, a toilet/shower combo, three sinks and an extra table, among other things. We still didn't have running lights, but this time we had good tires!

A couple of weeks later, Clayton was on Craigslist (just looking for parts, I'm sure) and he found another one...
It was a Shasta. We could see that it was larger than our AirFlyte, but close to the same age. Could it be a Deluxe?! Clayton sent an email, and so it began. The following day we were meeting a wonderful family in their driveway to look at the trailer. It was owned by a 16 year old, who had bought it for use as a hunting camper. He had owned it for two years and had taken excellent care of it. It was in remarkable shape, both inside and out. Far, far better than our poor AirFlyte.

It took about two minutes to decide we had to have it. This trailer was coming home with us. After all, how often does a Shasta Deluxe Model 19 come up for sale? And talk about amenities! This one has not just a toilet, but a shower with hot water too! Incredible!
It was in such excellent condition, it was coming from such a great family, the sun was shining...

And that's the story of how we came to have four trailers.
